The J.Costa transverse variator is a variator functionally similar to the roller variator, but with a series of features that not only simplify it but also improve its operation.

Starting from a structure that is the same as that of a typical variator, we can see that in the J.Costa the outer plate of the driving pulley, the bell and the rollers, which are now called masses, have changed.

In this variator, the power bell is a simple but vitally important element in defining the behaviour of the variator, as depending on the profile and how the sliding masses "attack" it, the variator will close the pulley in one way or another.
