The Polini Variator half-pulley is a transmission part developed to improve the operation of the automatic CVT Variator on Honda 350 cc scooters. By modifying the working surface where the belt slides, it allows the Variator to manage gear ratio changes more efficiently during acceleration.

In practice, this modification results in a quicker response when opening the throttle, more direct acceleration, and better recovery when the engine loads up again from low revs. The half-pulley geometry helps the belt move more progressively inside the Variator, making better use of the power delivery of the Honda 350 engine.

The Polini half-pulley is a common upgrade in transmission setups where a sportier scooter feel is desired without modifying the engine. Combined with Polini rollers of the appropriate weight, it allows adjustment of the rev rise and adapts the behavior of the Variator to the type of riding: stronger take-off from a standstill, better response in the city, or more balanced delivery for road use.

To achieve the best operation of the whole setup, it is advisable to check the condition of the internal components of the Variator. A worn belt, flat-spotted rollers, or damaged guides can limit the performance of the new half-pulley and reduce the improvement achieved.

In setups aimed at improving performance, it can also be combined with other transmission components such as sport rollers, reinforced belt, or Polini clutch, creating a setup with quicker response and operation better suited to demanding use.
