Description

JMT JMTNA9A sodium Battery with 12V, 3Ah and 300A CCA, developed as a new-generation alternative to conventional lead-acid starter batteries.

The difference is noticeable from the moment you hold it in your hand: it weighs only 0.95 kg. This makes it possible to reduce a significant amount of weight compared to a traditional battery, and to do so in a relatively high area of the motorcycle. For a build where the goal is to reduce weight without sacrificing starting capacity, it is an especially interesting upgrade.

But weight is not its only advantage. The JMTNA9A uses sodium polyanionic cell chemistry and pouch cell technology, a construction developed to provide high thermal stability and safe performance even under demanding conditions.

  • 0.95 kg and 300A starting power: that is one of its major advantages.

Despite its size and its 3Ah capacity, JMT states a starting current of 300A CCA according to the SAE standard. Sodium technology can deliver currents above 40C, compared with approximately 10C in a conventional lead-acid battery.

This means it can deliver a very high amount of current during the critical starting moment, precisely when the starter motor needs to overcome the engine’s compression and mechanical resistance.

In practice, the goal is not a huge battery, but rather a battery capable of delivering a lot of current when it is truly needed.

Why switch from a lead battery to a sodium battery?

  • Much less weight: approximately one third of the size and weight of an equivalent conventional starter battery.
  • 300A CCA: high current delivery capacity during starting.
  • Up to 5 times more charge cycles compared with a standard lead battery, according to JISD tests indicated by the manufacturer.
  • Low loss during storage: it can remain stored for up to 12 months while maintaining its usable capacity.
  • Fast charging up to 5C: it can reach approximately 90% charge in about 12 minutes under the conditions indicated by the manufacturer.
  • Recovery after deep discharge: JMT states that it can recover even after reaching 0V.
  • No liquid acid: eliminates the leakage risk typical of a lead-acid battery.
  • Maintenance-free: it does not require electrolyte refilling.
  • Installation in any position since it contains no liquid acid and no gas venting.

A particularly interesting Battery for modified motorcycles

On a Racing motorcycle or in a build where you have already invested in exhaust, transmission, suspension or lightweight components, fitting a heavy conventional battery does not always make much sense. The JMT sodium battery makes it possible to eliminate weight without sacrificing high starting capacity.

In addition, reducing mass on a motorcycle is not only useful for achieving a lower figure on the scales. Less weight means less mass to accelerate, brake and change direction, making it an especially logical modification in projects where every kilogram counts.

Good storage capacity

One of the usual problems with motorcycles that remain unused for long periods is finding the battery discharged when you use them again. This technology offers very good charge retention over long periods, which is especially useful for track motorcycles, seasonal vehicles or projects that are not used daily.

Wide temperature range

  • Charging temperature: 0 °C to +65 °C.
  • Discharge temperature: -40 °C to +65 °C.

Before installation

  • Check the battery voltage before installing it.
  • If the voltage is below 12.0V, it must be recharged beforehand.
  • Check that the motorcycle does not have excessive electrical draw at rest.
  • Always observe polarity and avoid any short circuit.
  • Do not connect multiple batteries in parallel or in series.

Charging and maintenance

  • Do not exceed a charging voltage of 15.0V.
  • After charging, let the battery rest for 30 to 60 minutes before checking the voltage.
  • Keep the state of charge above 20%.
  • If it remains in storage, carry out a maintenance recharge every 6 months for 10-30 minutes.
  • Keep the terminals clean and properly tightened.
  • If the motorcycle will remain unused for a long time, it is recommended to disconnect the battery.

Important: use a charger suitable for the specifications of this battery. In the event of abnormal heating, deformation or any irregular behavior during charging, disconnect the charger immediately.
