Gear ratios on geared mopeds are extremely important for getting the most out of the engine. A ratio that is too tall may prevent you from using the engine’s full power, and one that is too short can have the same effect; normally, certain guidelines should be followed when choosing them.
In the case of the rear sprocket, it is completely different: if it has more teeth, this means a shorter ratio (higher RPM), whereas if it has fewer teeth, this means a longer ratio (higher top speed).
