Gear ratios in geared mopeds are extremely important to get the most out of the engine. A ratio that is too long may prevent you from taking full advantage of the engine's power, and one that is too short can have the same effect. Normally, you should follow certain guidelines to choose them.
In the case of the sprocket, it is completely different: if it has more teeth, it results in a shorter gear ratio (higher RPM), whereas if it has fewer teeth, it lengthens the ratio (higher top speed).
