Ignition racing Digital Polini PVL programmable PRE crankcase

Programmable Polini PVL digital racing ignition for engines equipped with Polini PRE crankcases and compatible racing crankcases, reference 171.0580. Polini develops it specifically for competition builds where control of the ignition advance is a real part of engine tuning.

In a tuned 2-Stroke engine, the ignition not only has to produce a powerful spark: it has to do so at the exact moment relative to the position of the piston. Too much advance can increase temperature and the risk of detonation, while insufficient advance can cause the engine to lose response and fail to make proper use of combustion.

This system uses a low-inertia internal rotor, reducing the mass rotating together with the crankshaft. With less rotational mass, the engine can gain and drop RPM more quickly, something especially beneficial in racing setups that operate at high revs.

The main difference compared to a conventional ignition lies in the programmable digital management of the advance curve. This makes it possible to adapt the ignition timing according to the RPM and the engine's specific configuration, instead of working with a fixed curve intended for a generic build.

In an engine with a cylinder, a high-displacement exhaust, a high compression ratio, or very aggressive port timing, being able to adjust the curve makes it possible to achieve an engine that responds strongly when it comes on the pipe and maintains controlled combustion at high RPM.

Programming is carried out using the specific Polini system for PVL stators. The Polini programmer ref. 171.0686 allows the advance curve to be modified according to the builder's needs and is sold separately.
