Proper bedding-in of the brake pads: this is done by a series of gentle brakings, holding the brake lever for 10-15 seconds, then releasing the brake to cool the disc and pads, and repeating this action 5 or 6 times. 
This achieves a correct thermal and heating cycle, cooling of the system, and subsequently better braking.
