They have an iridium alloy tip on the central electrode, which is welded in a special process using a laser. Iridium is one of the hardest metals in the world, melts at 2450 ºC, and is highly resistant to spark erosion; these are the Spark plugs used in MotoGP and Formula 1. This material allows the lifespan of standard Spark plugs to be doubled.
