Just like with Scooters, the gear ratios in geared mopeds are important to get the most out of the engine.
A gear ratio that is too long can result in not taking full advantage of the engine's power, and with one that is too short, the same can happen; normally, you should follow some guidelines to choose them.

The most important thing to know is that the greater the number of teeth you have on the front sprocket, the longer the gear ratio, and the fewer teeth it has, the shorter the ratio.
In the case of the rear sprocket it is completely different: if it has more teeth, it means a shorter gear ratio, whereas if it has fewer teeth, it lengthens the ratio.
