The gear ratios in geared mopeds are extremely important to get the most out of the engine.
A gear ratio that is too long may prevent you from taking full advantage of the engine's power, and with one that is too short, the same can happen. Normally, you should follow certain guidelines to choose them.

If you choose a sprocket with fewer teeth, you will get more acceleration, but a lower top speed. If you choose a larger sprocket, you will lose acceleration but gain top speed.

In the case of the rear sprocket it is completely different: if it has more teeth, it means a shorter gear ratio (higher RPM), whereas if it has fewer teeth, it means a longer ratio (higher top speed).
