History of FMF

In 1973, at the age of 22, Don Emler started manufacturing the innovative exhaust systems we know from the brand in his home garage, founding FMF (Flying Machine Factory). He trained and competed in motocross with his friends, worked for different riders preparing their bikes and making them faster. Seeing and understanding the riders’ need to go faster, he decided to stop competing and dedicate himself to finding that extra improvement both in engines and exhausts.
He began to attract several emerging riders of the time and sponsored a motocross rider named Marty Smith. The following year, Smith won the AMA 125cc National Championship under the sponsorship of manufacturer FMF and American Honda.
In 1985, the manufacturer FMF introduced its first Nickel-plated exhaust pipes for off-road motorcycles. A few years later, in 1992, FMF launched the Gold Series exhaust line, and in 1995, created an FMF Gold Series silencer for 4-stroke motocross bikes.
