Proper bedding-in of the brake pads: is done by a series of gentle brakings holding the brake lever for 10-15 seconds and then releasing the brake to cool the disc and pads, and repeating this action 5 or 6 times. 
This achieves a proper thermal cycling and heating, cooling of the system, and subsequently better braking.

The bedding-in period depends on the type of brake pad compound. The organic compound requires a longer bedding-in period than sintered compounds.
