The spark plug is responsible for initiating combustion of the mixture inside the chamber, so its condition directly affects starting, idle stability, and engine response. As the miles accumulate, the electrodes wear down and the gap the spark must overcome increases, causing the ignition system to require more voltage to produce it.

A worn spark plug can cause more difficult starting, minor misfires, irregular idling, or less clean response when accelerating. Replacing it with the correct reference restores a consistent spark and, above all, maintains the heat range and dimensions specified for that engine.

For a spark plug, it is not enough for the thread to fit. Thread length and heat range are essential: an incorrect spark plug may position the electrode improperly inside the chamber or operate at a different temperature than intended.
