The gear ratios in geared mopeds are very important to get the most out of the engine. A ratio that is too long may prevent you from taking full advantage of the engine's power, and one that is too short can have the same effect. Normally, you should follow certain guidelines when choosing them.

If you choose a front sprocket with a lower number of teeth, you will achieve more acceleration, but a lower top speed. If you choose a larger front sprocket, you will lose acceleration but gain top speed.
