The gear ratios in geared mopeds are extremely important to get the most out of the engine.
A gear ratio that is too long may prevent you from making use of all the engine's power, and with one that is too short the same can happen; normally, you need to follow certain guidelines to choose them.
In the case of the rear sprocket, it is completely different: if it has more teeth, it results in a shorter gear ratio (higher RPM), whereas if it has fewer teeth, it lengthens it (higher top speed).
