To avoid damaging the engine, it is important to choose a spark plug with the correct heat rating. A spark plug that is too cold transfers more heat to the cylinder head, and the electrodes tend to become sooty because the temperature needed for the spark plug to clean itself automatically is not reached. A spark plug that is too hot transfers less heat to the cylinder head, and in this case the cylinder can overheat and seize.
In Racing cylinders, colder spark plugs are used (such as the Bosch W2…), while for Sport cylinders and standard cylinders, slightly hotter spark plugs are used (such as the Bosch W3 or W4).
Many tachometers require a spark plug suppressor to function properly.
Without a spark plug suppressor, extreme misfires can often occur.
